On May 31, 2014 in Kyiv Sports Palace civic meeting to initiate Ukrainian constitutional referendum to approve the new Constitution of Ukraine was held.Participating in the meeting were Republicans from many regions of Ukraine.
The organizers of the meeting were The Organizing Committeeof the civil initiative For the national Constitution!: Liudmyla Suprun – The Chairman of The Organizing Committeeof the civil initiative For the national Constitution!, Oleksandr Moroz – the former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Pavlo Viknyanskyy – the National leader of Studrespublika, Leonid Kadeniuk – a Hero of Ukraine, Candidate of Economic Sciences, etc.
Liudmyla Suprun opened the meeting and told that it had gathered more than 2,000 people from all over Ukraine and according to the Law of Ukraine gives the right to carry out the open civil charges. There were certain rules of the event, presented the Secretary of meeting, the secretariat and the counting commission.
There was the first vote, «On the feasibility of the national referendum on people’s initiative for the adoption of the national Constitution» – the majority of votes «for».
«The new version of the Constitution and restart of the power is a social necessity and only the adoption of national Constitution is the only constitutional and legal way to implement the requirements of the people. National Constitution retains 90% of the content of current Constitution. Concerning changes, Ukraine will be adopted as an integral unitary state within the approved boundaries; a parliamentary-presidential republic will be established: State Administration abolish in the region – the Executive Council will be created; will be elected judiciary; president and members of parliament will be elected for 4 years, and so on. With the adoption of national Constitution by the end of the year there will be able to re-elect parliament and local councils legitimately», said Oleksandr Moroz.
Then there was a discussion of the text of national Constitution, the audience in the hall actively asked questions. There weren’t indifferent people both among young and among the more adult population, indicating the importance of this process. Questions sounded different character, some of which led to a very interesting and heated discussion. Some suggestions to the national Constitution were taken into account and others – could offer more. Later there was a vote for the 3 questions to be included in the national referendum on the ballot. All questions voted positively.
At the end of the event an initiative group of over 1,000, was approved people who will collect signatures for the referendum, they voted forthe authorized person of the initiative group. Hero of Ukraine, astronaut Leonid Kadeniuk, was chosen.
So the work has begun. 3 million signatures of citizens of Ukraine should be collected in 40 days throughout Ukraine, which will provide an opportunity to conduct the national referendum and to adopt the national Constitution for the first time in history of Ukraine.
Of course, the work is difficult but, at present, it is the time for Ukraine when we need to make real changes and to do it legal way!
