Realizing the brunt of the crisis in Ukraine, which extends on different aspects of life, we can see a clear threat to the basic humanistic values. We believe that neither war, crisis nor attempts of lustration policies can justify restrictions of basic freedoms, including freedom of speech. Therefore, on the 22 of April, 2017 Studrespublika and the newspaper TheNew Republic are holding the Civil Lyceum on the theme ‘Freedom of speech in terms of security challenges, why it’s not right to limit it’. Welcome! Register!
Unfortunately, the attack on the freedom of speech is a reality in Ukraine. People are silent about it, some of them are even justifying the ones, who are guilty. But there is a very important public issue, that needs a public’s attention, discussion and solution. All these tasks will be realized by the media representatives, experts and active Ukrainians during the Civil Lyceum. Details – below.
Murders of journalists, the lack of prompt investigation on these cases, removing journalists’ licenses, pressure and harassment on the media and individual journalists, who are criticizing the government or having an alternative view on the events, threats of violence as tries to control the Internet, the presence of propaganda are the sad reality of the information field of Ukraine. But what about the abiding by the classical standards of the media’s freedom?
We believe that being silent, pretending that there are no outrages, which are not justify restrictions of freedom of speech is not only unconstitutional, it really kills the project of nation, deprive citizens of their right to know, to estimate, to change the power. Ukraine without freedom and equal rights and opportunities — is savagery and neototalitarianism!
We will discuss how to fight, to survive and to bring the truth to the citizens on the 22 of April from 10:30 to 20:00 (the registration begins at 10:00) during the Civil Lyceum: ‘Freedom of speech in terms of security challenges, why cannot we limit it’, that will be hold in the Kyiv House of Nature (Kyiv, str.
